I went into the game expecting to just pound on anything and everything with my fists until I saw the credits roll. How the heck are you supposed to enjoy anything in the same genre when I started with perfection!? Well, I may have found a way. The real reason is I peaked early – I grew up with The Simpsons Arcade Game and TMNT IV: Turtles in Time. It’s not because I don’t like them it’s great fun to casually give a beatdown without injury or repercussion. The problem with me is I don’t generally enjoy the genre so much. The Ninja Saviors is a side-scrolling, arcade-style, beat ‘em up through and through. Rather, Saviors provides quality of life upgrades, yet again bringing a classic game into a modern light. It doesn’t change up anything with the story or flow. But don’t get it confused – The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors isn’t a sequel. From the music and graphics of the arcade version to the surprisingly sophisticated control scheme of the SNES version, it only gets bigger and better in its newest iteration. it’s actually pretty great.įrom its original creation, The Ninja Warriors was designed with attention to detail and featured some innovative ideas for its time. Normally, a statement like that would be followed up by insightful criticism or aggressive sarcasm but. So, this game about robot ninja warriors is now done thrice over, while still sticking closely to its roots. That 1994 SNES game, The Ninja Warriors, itself is a console adaptation of the original 1987 arcade game by the same name. To give you some quick background information, The Ninja Saviors (the one being reviewed here) is a remastered reboot of the SNES classic, The Ninja Warriors. The question is, “What can you expect?” Well, like two uncoordinated, impatient people trying to play Cat’s Cradle in the back of a station wagon – a finger workout, some grunting, and/ or yelling. That goes double for something originally thought up before I was born.

What? Did you expect anything different from a beat ‘em up originally concocted in the late 80s? I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again – don’t go looking for a gripping narrative from a fighting game you’ll be severely disappointed.
